What Is A Cerec Primemill?

It is a machine used to fabricate dental restorations including crowns, bridges, veneers, crown over implants, smile designing, inlays, and onlays in a single visit by the dentist.

Steps In Single-Day Crowns Fabrication:

  1. Consultation
  2. Tooth preparation
  3. Digital scanning
  4. Designing using CAD software
  5. Milling in CEREC prime mill
  6. Glazing and staining in speed fire
  7. Bonding using the dental cement

Consultation

The dentist will examine the tooth and plan the restoration according to the tooth structure.

Tooth Preparation

The crown preparation of the teeth will be done by removing the decayed part of the teeth. Minimal tooth preparation is enough for designing and milling.

Isolation of the Tooth

After the crown preparation, the tooth has to be dried, free from any saliva and blood. Gingival retraction cords can be used for the isolation of the tooth.

Digital Scanning

Once the isolation is done, teeth have to be scanned using the intraoral scanner. Upper and lower scans along with the bite can be taken. This will create the exact replica of the tooth on the monitor. The patient will be more comfortable with the scanner than with the traditional method of messy impression.

Designing Using CAD Software

Using the replica of the teeth, designing can be done. Taking into consideration the size, shape and position of the tooth, the designing can be done. This designing will take around 20-30 mins. The advantage is that we can show the designs to the patient and change them accordingly to how the patient needs them.

Milling In The CEREC Primemill

Once the designing is done, the zirconia block can be inserted into the milling unit, which cuts the zirconia block into the perfect shape of the crown that we designed. This will approximately take around 15 mins.

Staining and Glazing in CEREC SpeedFire

Once the milling is over, the crown should be dried well and free from the dust. Then it should be kept inside the speed fire for glazing. Depends on the stain and the glaze we need; we can do multiple glazes.

Cementation of the Crowns

Cementation of the zirconia crowns can be done either using resin bonds or using the luting cements.
